Money

The unit of currency in Malaysia is the Ringgit (divided into 100 Sen).  Ringgit is available at the airport and in most medium sized towns. We recommend that sufficient money is changed before arriving at the Sunsail Malaysia base (airport is easiest). There are moneychangers in Kuah town at the jetty, approx a five-minute walk away. Credit cards are widely accepted apart from smaller restaurants.

Passports & Visas

Clients must ensure that their passport is valid for up to six months beyond their stay.  Visas are generally not required if staying for less than 30 days in Malaysia.

Health

For up to date authoritative advice on health protection and vaccinations, we recommend you consult your family doctor before travelling to the Malaysia.

Food

Langkawi enjoys a vast array of culinary delights, made up of Malay, Thai, Chinese and Indian cuisine. Fish features on every menu as does the exotic fruit. As well as fresh coconuts year round and plenty of Starfruit, there's the soft, sweet Ciku, the Pomelo (Jerunga) Jackfruit, Rambutan and the Mangosteen. The Spiky green Durian fruit which looks nasty, smells horrible but tastes delicious is a national favourite, perhaps not least because of its powerful aphrodisiac qualities.

Sharks

There are sharks around but not dangerous - Leopard and Whale sharks. These are not a threat to swimmers or sailors!

Duty Free

As Langkawi is a duty free island this is an ideal place to stock up on goods. Good value souvenirs to collect while on your holiday include silks and gold.

Pirates

The main problem area with pirates is the South China Sea. Piracy around Malaysia is very rare and they are only interested in cargo ships and not charter yachts.  It is quite safe to leave the yachts during your holiday.
